Lambros Messinis is Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology, in the Department of Psychology, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a member of the Laboratory of Neuropsychology and Behavioural Neuroscience in the Department and Director of the Division Cognition, Brain, and Behaviour. He has obtained two Doctoral (PhD) degrees, one from the University of Johannesburg (p. RAU), Behavioural Medicine-Clinical Psychology Section, Unit of Psychophysiology, specializing in Clinical Health Psychology – Behavioural Medicine and Neuropsychology and a second from the University of Patras Medical School, Neurology Department, specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation. He also completed post – doctoral research/fellowships between in the Medical Physics Laboratory, at the University of Patras Medical School, with an emphasis in Neuropsychology and Neuroimaging, and in the Neurology Department, of the University of Ioannina Medical School, with an emphasis in Clinical Neuropsychology and Neuropsychological Rehabilitation. From June 2003 until April of 2021, he was employed at the University Hospital of Patras, in Greece, where he directed the Memory-Neuropsychology unit of the Neurology Department and the Neuropsychology Laboratory of the Psychiatric Department in the same hospital. He has published over 180 articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals with a high citation record and impact factor. He is an ad-hoc peer reviewer in a large serious of international journals with a high reputation and member of the Editorial Boards of several prestigious journals (e.g., Behavioural Neurology, Scientific Reports). He is presently Associator Editor in the high impact journal Frontiers in Psychology – Neuropsychology Section. He has participated in several national and international research protocols and organized scientific meetings / conferences. He is also on the advisory committees / review groups of several grant applications. He is also co-responsible for the cognitive neurorehabilitation specialization, on the MSc progran in Neurorehabilitation, Department of Neurology, School of Medicine, University of Thessalia.
My research interests include investigating the pathophysiology of neurological and psychiatric disorders through the study of dysfunctional cognitive processes and their implications for optimal intervention and rehabilitation of cognitive and behavioural dysfunction. Further, I have conducted research on the adaptation of culturally appropriate neuropsychological tests in Greece, brain malleability in neurological diseases, neuropsychological/cognitive neurorehabilitation interventions in neurological and psychiatric populations, and functional neuroimaging.
