The Department of Psychology operates the institution of Study Advisors. The task of the Student Advisors is to inform, guide and advise the students of the Department on issues related to their studies and to support the educational process of students who may encounter difficulties.
In particular, the Student Advisors guide and support students in relation to:
A. Curriculum issues concerning:
- the structure of the Programme of Studies and the obligations of students
- the courses
- possible difficulties encountered by students in the course
- the regulations of the Undergraduate Programme of Study and the Study Guide
- the exams
- the improvement of grades
- the thesis and the internship
- mobility programmes for study and/or placement (Erasmus +, Erasmus International/EPICUR)
- delaying the progression of studies.
B. Academic and professional choices relating to:
- academic objectives, scholarship programmes and postgraduate studies
- career goals and (alternative) career prospects
C. Other issues related to attendance, academic success and completion of studies, such as:
- adjustment issues
- skills necessary for successful completion of studies.
It is important to clarify that Study Advisers do not substitute counsellors or psychologists in specialised support structures within the UAS (e.g., Liaison Office, KESYPSY, EEFAPS), but refer to these structures if necessary.
From the academic year 2020-2021, all first-year students of the Department are assigned to a Study Adviser and are informed about this by the Department’s Secretariat.
Particular care is taken to support students belonging to sensitive social groups (e.g., students with health issues, disabilities, sensory-motor difficulties, etc.) with regard to addressing barriers and difficulties in education, learning and assessment.
Study advisors exclusively for students belonging to vulnerable social groups are Ms Panagiota Metallidou, Professor of Cognitive Psychology and Applications in Education (pmetall@psy.auth.gr) and Ms Afroditi Baka, Assistant Professor of Social Psychology (abaka@psy.auth.gr).
