Elisavet Chrysochoou is an Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology. She graduated from the School of Early Childhood Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, obtaining the Advanced Diploma in Child Development (with Distinction) and the MA in Education (Early Years – with a scholarship from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation) from the University of London, Institute of Education. She completed her doctoral studies at the School of Early Childhood Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, supported by the HERAKLEITOS – Research Scholarships with Priority in Basic Research Programme, and obtained her PhD in 2006. She has conducted postdoctoral research at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (with a Research Committee Excellence Scholarship) and has participated in research programmes as a postdoctoral researcher, research collaborator, and principal investigator.

Her research focuses on cognitive development, with particular emphasis on executive function development and cognitive development in the context of bilingualism and biculturalism, as well as on moral and prosocial development, including the development of moral consciousness, and on the development of self-conscious emotions, with an emphasis across these areas on sociocultural contextual influences.

In addition to her undergraduate teaching in the School of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she has been teaching Developmental Psychology courses for several years in the MSc Programme in School Psychology of the same Department. She has also been collaborating with the Hellenic Open University for several years as a member of the teaching staff in Master’s course modules related to cognitive and language development. Prior to her appointment at the School of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she taught for several years at Greek universities.

She is a member of European and Greek scientific associations. At present, E. Chrysochoou serves as Treasurer of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2025–2027), while since 2022 she has been the Coordinator of the Developmental Psychology Section of the Hellenic Psychological Society together with G. Vleioras.
