Despina Moraitou is Professor of Cognitive GeroPsychology in the School of Psychology, and a member of the Laboratory of Neurodegenerative Diseases, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She is the author and co-author of over of 150 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, published in international and Greek scientific journals and volumes. She has over 300 presentations, invited and otherwise, at international and Greek conferences. She holds the position of Co-Editor (field: Psychology) (2015-) of the interdisciplinary forum «Journal of Happiness Studies». She was «President» (2018-2022) of the Division of Applied Gerontology / GeroPsychology of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Panhellenic Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Federation (2020-).
Her research interests lie on the psychology of lifespan development and aging, on methods and assessment issues, as well as on the design of experiments in the cognitive psychology field. Specifically, her interests lie on the study of the trajectories of cognitive and affective processes during lifespan development and aging, on positive psychology of aging and the development of human strengths, on the design and development of neuropsychological and psychometric instruments measuring cognitive decline in healthy and pathological aging.
