Elvira Masoura graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology, of the Faculty of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a degree in Psychology as major and then obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in “Mental Retardation and Learning Disabilities” from the Department of Psychology, University of Keele, England (1991). In 2000, she completed her PhD with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation, in Psychology at the Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Bristol, England.

She conducts research in the field of basic cognitive mechanisms such as memory. She is the Director of the Psychological Laboratory of the Department of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has participated in research projects abroad and in Greece. She has presented her research at international and national conferences and has published papers in international scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings. She is a member of several international scientific societies, such as the team “With two languages” which is the Greek branch of the “Bilingualism Matters” network of the University of Edinburgh.

My research interests lie in the area of Experimental Cognitive Psychology with emphasis on memory and language. The largest part of my empirical work concerns the links between these two cognitive systems. Specifically, I investigate the contribution of working memory to acquisition of vocabulary (in mother tongue and foreign language) and the function of cognitive systems in bilingual and multilingual populations. Most recent work focuses on development of tools for estimating working memory capacity among children and adults. Also, on the development of training programs and interventions that enhance working memory’s capacity.
